The Growth of Solar Energy
The level of developments that are taking place as more residential communities choose to use solar energy to power their regular home tasks has given the words “effectiveness” and “efficiency” a completely new meaning. The cost for a typical household to switch to solar energy is getting smaller every year, according to research done by the US Department of Energy (DOE). Modern homes employ solar technology for a wide range of purposes, so as families change, different solar energy system improvements have distinct advantages. Consequently, being aware of these new advancements will enable locals to plan not just for their own solar energy systems but also to be prepared for and endure any potential future changes.
Some Recent Solar System Advancement
Solar Cell Efficiency
The photovoltaic solar cells that turn sunlight into electricity in solar panels are getting more and more efficient every year. Scientists are still working to improve solar cells’ efficiency so they can generate more electricity under the same conditions as less efficient solar cells.
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in the US recently announced a record solar cell efficiency of 39.5% when exposed to natural light.
Due to the cell’s efficiency and straightforward construction, it is especially well suited for situations with limited space where a little panel can produce a lot of electricity (such as in future aircraft).
Tracking solar cells for the sun
Although solar panels on their own are highly successful, science is constantly seeking for methods to improve and add functionality to products. Because of this, solar cells that track the sun’s arc as it moves through the sky were introduced to the globe in 2016. These cell arrays can generate more power than typical panels on a clear day!
Solar windows
A solar window is a solar cell that serves as clear glass to hide the production of solar energy from view.
Although research on solar windows is still in its early stages, specialists in the field are optimistic that they will be commercially available in around five years.
Dr. Richard Lunt, the scientist who developed these solar windows, has said that they function “nearly like a solar cell one may install in a window.”
Solar windows increase the efficiency of solar cells since they produce energy using all forms of light, not only visible light, which is a growing trend in the solar industry.
